The Spiritual Care Department at HSL is committed to creating a culture of vibrant and pluralistic Jewish life, in the context of spiritually diverse patient and resident communities. Our staff have particular expertise in the spiritual care of older adults, dementia, end-of-life decision making, care surrounding dying, and bereavement support for persons of all traditions and backgrounds. Chaplains serve in HSL''s housing sites as well as in long term chronic, rehabilitative, palliative, and memory supportive care. Chaplains lead Jewish and Christian religious services and provide educational programming for residents, patients, and staff.

The Hebrew SeniorLife/Hebrew Rehabilitation Center (HSL/HRC) CPE Programs offer ACPE-accredited, experiential, spiritual care education centered around Jewish content and process, with a special focus on older adults. Our CPE programs promote the integration of students' personal history, spiritual and religious traditions, ethics, and the behavioral sciences in the practice of spiritual care. In collaboration with the Spiritual Care Department, the programs provide spiritual care to residents and patients, their families, and staff, as well as in select community settings. The programs welcome committed learners and practitioners from a variety of spiritual and religious traditions: rabbinical and cantorial students, seminarians of all traditions, clergy, laypersons, and healthcare professionals.

In the spirit of tikkun olam, the programs are committed to teaching their students to provide high-quality spiritual care to the older adults in our care, drawing on respect for others' beliefs and practices, based on cultural humility, and informed by best practices as shown by research.

Through our programs, we're creating leaders for the next generation of clergy, professional chaplains, and ACPE Certified Educators who are committed to serving older adults, Jews, the nonreligious, and other marginalized groups.

HSL/HRC CPE programs are accredited by ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care & Education, and offer Levels IA, IB, IIA, and IIB CPE in each CPE unit.
